Washington, D.C., March 12, 2025 — Thanks to members of Congress working in bipartisan fashion, we’ve made remarkable progress in research, care and support in the Alzheimer’s and dementia community. Now, the Alzheimer’s Association and the Alzheimer’s Impact Movement (AIM) call on Congress to ensure any Medicaid changes protect the nearly seven million Americans living with Alzheimer’s disease and their over 11 million caregivers. Americans living with dementia are highly vulnerable due to their complex medical and long-term care needs.

We stand ready to work with Congress in bipartisan fashion to maintain a sustainable, person-centered, long-term support system in which people with dementia have access to a full array of quality services including nursing home care and home and community-based options.

Medicaid is the only federal program that covers nursing home stays that most people with dementia require in the late stages of the disease, and home and community-based care for people in the early and middle stages of the disease.
